Pakistan Govt Planning to Phase Out Petrol Bikes from the Country

Federal Minister of Defense Khawaja Asif said that the government wants to gradually phase out petrol-powered bikes from Pakistan during the National Energy Conservation Policy meeting. He continued by saying that the government would encourage the purchase, sale, and local production of electric bikes.

According to Asif, this choice will help the environment, the people, and the state’s economy. The minister noted that in order to save Rs. 86 billion annually, the government will accelerate the implementation of e-bikes.

He also spoke about various ways to conserve electricity in Pakistan’s capital, like limiting the hours that restaurants, shops, shopping centers, and wedding venues can be open. It is no longer possible to import electric cars (EVs) due to the regulatory duty (RD) SRO.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves are being rapidly depleted as a result of the rising dollar exchange rate, and the country’s economy is on the verge of collapsing. As a result, the general public is dubious of the current progress.

SRO 1571(1)2022 expired on November 21, 2022. Prices for EVs significantly dropped as a result of the shift. The E-cost of Tron’s dropped by roughly Rs 20 million. After the RD was repealed, numerous other automakers also reduced the price of their EVs. The fact that the RD has expired has also sparked rumors that people who had put off importing premium EVs from abroad may now begin doing so.
