Fired Twitter Employees Create a New Twitter Rival App Named ‘Spill’
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterLinkedinWhatsapp

Created by ex-Twitter employees Terrell and Brown, Spill is a real-time conversational platform where users can create and post ‘Spills’ and also hold online/IRL tea parties.

Elon Musk has fired more than 7500 Twitter employees since he stepped into the company’s offices. Alphonzo Terrell and DeVaris Brown were among the many people that lost their jobs; they have since made the decision to take on their former employer and are developing a platform that will compete with Twitter.

Named ‘Spill’, the platform is probably inspired by the famous phrase ‘Spill the tea’, which is commonly used when you want another person to disclose a piece of information or news.

Spill, as its title suggests, is a real-time chat platform like Twitter, and posts posted by users there are referred to as “Spills.” Users can host tea parties in addition to posting on the platform. These tea parties can take place in person or online.

Terrel and Brown state that their network will differ from well-known social media brands like Twitter and TikTok because it will focus more on diverse and minority communities, which are frequently ignored on large social media platforms.

Talking about the idea behind Spill, Terrel said that “I think this is really a platform issue. Even before I left Twitter, over the last several months, I was just talking to Black female creators, talking to Black queer creators and I’m like, ‘How do you make your money? Is any platform supporting you? Does the idea of Spill interest you?”

Terrel and Brown, who reject the label “Web3 firm,” are integrating blockchain technology to enhance the understanding of post virality and to better pay content creators. Currently, the creators have not revealed any details about platform split and monetization methods.
