Pakistan's imports of grains go up 47.34% from July-October

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reports that between July 2022 and September 2022, Pakistan’s imports of grains increased by 47.37%.

Food imports totaled Rs765.55 billion during the first four months of the fiscal year 2022–23, according to a PBS report. According to PBS data, imports during the comparable months of 2021–22 totaled Rs519.58 billion.

The nation purchased wheat worth Rs102.60 billion, growing imports of wheat by 156.75%. While during the same time period, imports of soybeans increased by an astounding 537.22%.

According to the PBS report, cooking oil imports increased by 66.6% to Rs314.20.

The country bought Rs77.67 billion worth of pulses, up 69.84%, while tea imports jumped by 37.38% to Rs42.85 billion.

Despite the increasing import bill, the federal cabinet approved the Economic Coordination Committee’s (ECC) decisions to import nearly $300 million worth of urea fertilizer and wheat through open tenders.
