The World Youth Scrabble Championship, which Pakistan is practically managing from Karachi, has advanced three Pakistani competitors to the finals.

While Sri Lanka and India each sent two players, Pakistan was the only nation to send three players to the finals. According to a press release, Australia, Thailand, and Malaysia, each has one player competing in the finals.

The biggest surprise of the competition was that Pakistan’s Syed Imaad Ali, the defending champion, was unable to advance to the finals.

The World Youth Scrabble Championship’s group stages are concluded. 86 players competed in the event from 15 different nations on five different continents.

The top ten players advanced to the final, which will be played on October 29 and 30, following the conclusion of 36 rounds.

Sri Lanka dominated the group stage with their athletes taking first and second place. Sandali Withanage came in second with 25 wins and a tie, followed by Adheesha Dissanayake, who concluded the group stage with 28 victories and a spread of 2667.

  • Hasham Hadi of Pakistan ranked third with 26 victories and a spread of 1886
  • Rookie Affan Salman came in fourth with 25 victories and a spread of 2210
  • Ali Salman, the older brother of Affan, also advanced to the finals.

Hasham Hadi Khan, Affan Salman, Ali Salman, Adheesha Dissanayake, Sandali Vithanage, Madhav Kamath, Pramit Rao, Ronnie Bennet, Chaiyottha Manachaisi, and Eirfan Razman are among the ten finalists from Pakistan (Malaysia).

All ten finalists would play in a round-robin league on Saturday, and the World Youth Champion would be determined after a five-game King of the Hill format on Sunday.
