CDA Set to Launch Electric Buses for Public Transport in Islamabad
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterLinkedinWhatsapp

Electric buses for intracity travel will soon be introduced by Capital Development Authority (CDA). Electric buses will be used on six distinct public transportation lines, according to CDA officials. The department will also make room for bus charging stations.

On October 12th, CDA will begin the bus consulting tender process. By the end of December, the first batch of electric buses will arrive in Islamabad. Three e-bus base stations will be built by CDA.

The introduction of electric buses has been a recent priority for CDA. Recently, the government started testing these buses in the Twin Cities. According to the most recent rumors, those ideas might soon see a real follow-up.

Route Extention Plan

13 new bus routes will be introduced by CDA in two stages. Capt. (Ret.) Usman Younis, CDA Chairman, said that the first phase will involve the provision of transportation on six congested roads. The administration would buy buses for seven more routes in the second phase, he added.

Younis further said that after the IJP road is finished, CDA will begin a route from Faizabad to Pir Wadhai. He noted that PIMS would act as the center for the new routes, connecting the service to Metro buses on the Red Line and Orange Line.

Meanwhile, CDA is evaluating the feasibility of all routes and is preparing tender documents for various contractors. The department states that its aim is to reduce people’s reliance on private means of transportation to save fuel costs and the environment.

Advantages Of Electric buses:

Electric buses are set to become widespread over the coming years, as are private electric vehicles (EVs) and taxis, and these developments will help the world move towards a more sustainable and more intelligent mobility system that improves the quality of life for everyone. And, as we never stop pointing out, electric mobility, like all aspects of the energy transition, can lead to job creation. The benefits are also economic, and not just environmental.
