For the public sector to implement solar power projects totaling 2000 megawatts, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif provided his permission in principle.

On Thursday, he provided this approval while serving as the meeting’s chair and overseeing a high-level examination of the nation’s 10,000 MW solarization project.

The country will produce inexpensive and environmentally beneficial electricity due to the solarization initiative, according to the prime minister, who spoke at the event. According to him, the project will reduce the nation’s dependence on expensive fuel-fired projects and conserve vital foreign currency.

According to the proposal, agricultural tube wells would be converted to solar energy in order of priority in all four provinces.

According to the prime minister, distribution and line losses, electricity theft, and an increase in circular debt may all be solved by employing solar energy.

He said that the government would provide sovereign guarantees to the businesses investing in solar energy.

The transition of the nation’s fuel-powered power facilities to solar energy was thoroughly explained to the gathering.

The meeting was informed that an investors conference on investments in the country’s solar energy sector was held on the 14th of this month. Representatives of investment companies from local and foreign nations, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, China, and Qatar, participated in the conference and expressed a strong interest in investing in Pakistan’s solar energy sector.

The meeting was also informed that the process for choosing the country’s new solar power plants’ location had begun. In this end, a location close to Muzaffargarh has also been chosen for the construction of a 600 MW solar power plant.

In addition, plans for solar-powered 11 KV feeders are being developed.

The Alternate Energy Development Board, Central Power Purchasing Company, NEPRA, and other organizations are now consulting on the framework and tariff for investment in the solar energy industry, it was further disclosed at the conference.

The Prime Minister directed to further improve the timelines in this regard so that the electricity generated from solar energy can be included in the national grid at the earliest.

The Federal Minister for National Food Security Tariq Bashir Cheema, the Secretary of the Power Division, and one person from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources will serve on the committee that will be formed by the Prime Minister to solarize tubewells across the nation.
