ISLAMABAD — Sarah Saeed, a Pakistani bureaucrat, made history last week when a high-powered board advanced her to BPS-22, the highest level post in the civil service.

Saeed has now become the youngest Pakistani officer to reach the top post in the previous five decades.

Serving as Special Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Sarah Saeed had an illustrious career.

According to a news statement published on Friday, she has previously worked as the additional secretary finance division, leading staff in the National School of Public Policy, and director of the Civil Services Academy.

She had previously worked as the director-general of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and as a commercial secretary at Pakistan’s mission in The Hague. She had also served in reputable international organizations, according to the official statement.

Sarah Saeed’s exceptional academic achievement was matched by her stellar civil service record. She was the best in her PAS class. She earned a gold medal at the University of Punjab and an MSc in Economics for Development from Oxford University.

Sarah Saeed was also a published author.

“She is an asset of the Civil Service of Pakistan and a shining role model for the women in the country,” said the press release.

“Thank Allah Almighty for this honor and pray that He may give me strength to contribute my bit to the best of my capacity and judgment in the interest of the state of Pakistan,” she wrote.
