A public sector institution in Pakistan named The Health Services Academy (HSA), has signed an agreement with the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) to assist strengthen the capacity of 12 Muslim countries in Africa in the public health sector.

Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, vice-chancellor of HSA, and Prof Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, rector of IUIU, signed the agreement.
The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) agreed to offer financial support to the HSA, as to achieve the goal which would use its technical resources.

For the development of new drugs in conducting clinical studies, the HSA will also assist the health institutes of the 12 African countries, as the academy has done for Covid-19 vaccines in Pakistan.

“Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, the rector of Uganda’s Islamic University, arrived in Pakistan recently to attend the OIC meeting and lingered back to discuss health improvement in 12 African nations with officials from the HSA,” he added.

“The OIC has tasked Pakistan with enhancing the ability of other Muslim nations in the public health sector,” he explained. “To teach and develop the health sector of 12 African countries the government has tasked the HSA with using both its physical and online channels.”

“It is a source of great pride for the Pakistani nation that a public organization of the Pakistan government would assist several African countries via its technical skill and wide experience in public health,” the HSA stated.

Prof Gyagenda expressed his thanks and praised HSA’s work during Covid-19 in Pakistan during his speech on the occasion.
