Federal Minister for Railways Azam Khan Swati has launched a new project of the E-procurement System in Pakistan Railways that will allow transparency in the process of awarding the contracts.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Islamabad between Tejari Pakistan and Pakistan railways.

Azam Khan Swati, the Federal Minister for Railways, was in attendance, as was Syed Usman Hassan, the General Manager of Tejari Pakistan, and other high-ranking officials. Swati, speaking at the event, stated that Pakistan Railways has begun working to make procurement processes transparent, efficient, and simple, in line with Prime Minister Imran Khan’s goal of a digital Pakistan.

He added that the government is focusing on accountability, openness, and providing relief to the people and that it has achieved significant progress toward becoming an E-Government.

According to the minister, the initiation of E-Procurement by Pakistan Railways is encouraging because projects and routine procurement entail enormous sums of money worth billions of rupees.

With the successful launch of the E-Procurement system in Pakistan Railways pilot project, more public sector companies will be urged to follow suit and make their procurement budgets transparent and visible in order to create a 100 percent audit trail, which fulfills Prime Minister Imran Khan’s objective.

Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani, Secretary of Pakistan Railways, stated that the department has established a roadmap that will not only make the procurement process transparent but also save time.
