Bahraini officials have approved the use of a booster dosage of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, marking the first time the Russian vaccine has been licensed for a third dose, according to the state-run Bahrain News Agency. On Saturday, the Bahrain News Agency reported

The booster injection was authorized for use by all adults over the age of 18 at least six months after getting their second dose of the Sputnik V vaccination, according to the news agency.

Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have officially issued third booster injections with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

As per the Reuters COVID-19 Tracker, the small island nation’s COVID-19 infections are declining, now at 3% of their high, with 95 new cases recorded on average per day.

According to the World Bank, there have been 272,709 coronavirus infections and 1,388 coronavirus-related fatalities in Bahrain, which has a population of around 1.7 million people.

Nearly 2.5 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been delivered thus far, enough to immunize approximately 76 percent of the population, assuming each individual requires two doses.
