16 Pilgrims Killed, 25 Injured in Separate Bus Accidents Near Khairpur & Qazi Ahmed

In a tragic turn of events, two separate road accidents on Saturday claimed the lives of 16 pilgrims and left 25 others injured as they traveled to the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine for the annual Urs celebrations. The accidents occurred in Khairpur’s Ranipur area and on Qazi Ahmed Amri Road, highlighting serious road safety concerns during major religious gatherings.

First Accident: Khairpur Tragedy

The first accident took place on the National Highway near Ranipur in Khairpur, where a passenger bus carrying pilgrims from Punjab overturned due to overspeeding, according to police reports. The crash resulted in 10 fatalities and 15 injuries. Emergency services swiftly responded, transporting the injured to Gambat Hospital and other local medical facilities.

Second Accident: Qazi Ahmed Crash

The second fatal incident occurred on Qazi Ahmed Amri Road, where a vehicle carrying pilgrims from Burewala, Punjab, met with a severe accident. The crash claimed six lives and injured 10 individuals. The injured were initially shifted to Tehsil Hospital Qazi Ahmed, with eight critically injured victims later referred to PMU Hospital Nawabshah for advanced treatment.

Pilgrims Were En Route to Sehwan Sharif

Authorities confirmed that both groups of victims were en route to Sehwan Sharif for the annual Urs celebrations of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. This event is a significant spiritual gathering that attracts thousands of devotees from across Pakistan, making road travel during this period particularly hazardous due to increased traffic and reckless driving.

Investigations Underway

Local police have launched an investigation into both accidents. Initial reports suggest that overspeeding was a primary factor in at least one of the crashes, underscoring the persistent dangers of unregulated long-haul travel, especially during peak pilgrimage seasons.

Road Safety Concerns

These devastating incidents have once again raised concerns over road safety measures and the need for stricter traffic enforcement, particularly during major religious events. Authorities are urged to implement stricter speed regulations, enhance vehicle safety checks, and improve emergency response measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
